Why BestCompare exists, how I work with local Australian businesses, and what it is like to have someone look after your website.
BestCompare is a web development agency for cafés, clinics, tradies, and other local operators across Australia. I design and build fast, responsive sites with excellent SEO and GEO - then I stay. Hosting, updates, and the next change you need are part of the job, not a surprise invoice after handover.
I’m Karlo Karlovic, founder of BestCompare in Sydney. I’m a software builder who has helped organisations with websites and now works directly with Australian small businesses.
I design and build lean Astro sites, handle hosting and updates, and keep service information accurate after launch. I write about local SEO from the practical side: clear services, real service areas, useful contact paths, and claims a business can support.
You can find more background on LinkedIn.
Most small businesses choose between a traditional agency - a large upfront fee, then often a separate retainer - or a DIY website builder, where you keep control but also the ongoing work of running it.
Neither of those helps the owner who is already on the tools, behind the counter, or with a full appointment book. The website still needs to load on a phone, show up when someone nearby searches, and stay current when hours or services change.
I take care of your website. You take care of business. I exist to be the person who owns that - not a ticket queue, and not a one-off project that goes stale.
A website is not a one-off purchase. It needs hosting, security, backups, content changes, and search work for as long as you want customers to find you. A large build fee pretends the job ends at launch. Then you are asked to pay again for a redesign a few years later.
A monthly plan is honest about that. Hosting, updates, and improvements sit in one predictable price in Australian dollars. I stay useful after go-live, because that is the product - not a handover PDF.
It also keeps incentives aligned. If the site is neglected, you cancel. Standard plans do not lock you into a long-term contract. You stay for as long as the site is worth looking after.
Local work is won nearby: a suburb search, a map pack result, a recommendation in an AI answer, a tap-to-call on the way to the job. I build for that, not for a generic “startup landing page” that could belong to anyone.
Cafés, clinics, and trade businesses need clear services, the suburbs they cover, proof they are real, and one obvious next step. I write and structure the site for how Australians actually search - “plumber near me”, not brochure fluff.
I am based in Sydney and work with local businesses nationwide. Meetings can be remote. The site is still aimed at the people around your locations.
BestCompare is run by Karlo Karlovic, a software builder who treats a website like a product: designed, shipped, measured, and kept working. The same discipline that goes into software - performance, accessibility, clean structure, no leftover junk - goes into every client site.
I write the site myself. Light pages, mobile-first layout, hosting chosen for speed, and technical SEO baked in from the start. You see that in the Core Web Vitals and Lighthouse scores I aim for, not in a theme shop screenshot.
You do not get a junior on a page builder and a project manager in another timezone. You get someone who already knows the codebase when you ask for a change.
Wix, Squarespace, Elementor, and their cousins are a good fit if you want to build and maintain everything yourself. They are a different trade-off for a business site that needs to be fast and found.
Page builders ship extra code and plugins to support drag-and-drop editing, and layouts drawn from a shared template library. Pages can get heavier, updates can need more upkeep, and the design can look similar to other sites on the same platform. Search engines and customers both notice.
Websites without the headache. I build custom, lean sites so they load on suburban 4G, stay easy to change, and do not depend on a drag-and-drop editor you should never have to open.
No mystery process. You will always know what happens next.
Tell me about your business. I’ll come back with a clear scope, timeline, and fixed quote in Australian dollars.
