How My Website Design Process Works

See how my website design process works from first message to launch, plus what happens when you need a change later.

You don’t need to know how websites are built.

Business owners usually worry about the process more than the software. What do I send? Who writes the words? What about my old site?

Here is the entire experience, in order. A short note is enough to start. I ask for the rest as I go.

The path

From first message to a site I keep looking after.

  1. You send a short note

Tell me what the business does, where you are, and what you want customers to do - call, book, or request a quote. Mention the site you have now, if any. You do not need a long brief.

What I do. I reply with questions, a timeline, and a fixed quote in Australian dollars.

  2. I meet and agree the scope

A conversation about the business, the pages you need, and the plan that fits. Meetings can be remote.

What I do. You get a clear scope and price before I start. No surprise extras unless you ask for work outside the plan.

  3. You review the design

I show you the look of the site - layout, type, and how a customer would move through it. You tell me what to change. I adjust, then you sign it off.

What I do. I do not start the full build until you accept the design. That is the revision window. After sign-off, a new design direction is extra work.

  4. I build it

Pages, forms, click-to-call, hosting, and the SEO foundations in your plan. You do not log into a builder or pick plugins.

What I do. Starter and Growth typically go live in two weeks. Pro can go live in as little as three business days from design acceptance, assuming content and approvals are ready on time. Dates move if I am waiting on you.

  5. The site goes live

I connect your domain and switch customers over. If you already have a site, it stays up until the new one is ready.

What I do. I take existing URLs and redirects into account so I do not create unnecessary disruption to search.

  6. I keep looking after it

Hosting, security, backups, and the content changes in your plan. Hours, photos, services, staff bios, blog posts - send them, I put them on the site.

What I do. You never need a CMS login. Starter includes 30 minutes of changes a month, Growth 60, Pro unlimited - one active request at a time, front of the queue.

Questions owners actually ask

What do I need to provide?

To start: the business name, what you do, the suburbs you cover, and what you want a visitor to do next. If you have a domain, an existing site, a logo, or photos, send those too.

That is enough. I will ask for anything else I need - opening hours, services, price guides, team names - as the project goes.

Who writes the content?

If you already have good copy, I use it. If you don’t, I structure and write the pages from what you tell me about the business, services, and locations.

You check it before it goes live. You know the work. I know how to put it on a page people will actually read.

What about photos?

Your own photos, logo, and branding if you have them. Real pictures of the shop, the van, or the team usually convert better than stock.

If you don’t have photos yet, I can use suitable professional stock so the site can still launch. You can send better shots later and I will swap them in.

What happens to my old site?

It stays live until the new one is ready. Then I point your domain at the new site. You keep the domain in your name.

If the current site has pages that already rank, I take those URLs and redirects into account so I don’t throw that away for no reason. A Facebook page or Google listing is not a problem - I can still build the website beside them.

How many revisions?

On the design: I revise with you until you sign it off. That is the moment I lock the look and start the build. I am not counting “two rounds and you’re done” - I am aiming for a design you will accept.

After you accept the design, a new direction (different layout, a redesign) is extra work. Small copy and photo tweaks after launch come out of your monthly change allowance, not a new project.

How quickly will changes be made later?

Email me the change. You do not log in. Starter and Growth changes are done within the monthly allowance, usually in a few Australian business days. Pro is unlimited - one active request at a time - and goes to the front of the queue.

If something is broken on a live site I host, tell me and I investigate - you don’t chase a hosting company or a plugin update yourself.

After go-live, the process stays simple

Need new hours, a service page, or a photo from Saturday’s job? Send it. I update the site and keep the layout consistent. That is the point of the monthly plan - not a handover folder and a site that slowly goes stale.

Your website should just work. I make sure it does.

Tell me about your business. I’ll come back with a clear scope, timeline, and fixed quote in Australian dollars.
