SEO is how Google decides you are the café, clinic, or trade business to show. For local work that still means:
- A fast site with clear service pages
- Matching name, address, and phone everywhere
- Google Business Profile that is complete and active
- Reviews, citations, and pages for the suburbs you actually serve
That has not gone away. The map pack still sends the jobs.
What GEO adds
Generative engine optimisation is the next layer. People now ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Google’s AI Overview “who should I call for a blocked drain in Brunswick?” Those systems read your site, your listings, and other trusted pages - then they name a handful of businesses.
If your site is a thin template with no proof, you will not be in that handful.
GEO work looks like:
- Clear, factual service copy (not keyword stuffing)
- Local schema and FAQs written for real questions
- Consistent name, address, and phone
- Pages that answer “do you come to my suburb?” without making the model guess
I set both up when I build the site. Growth and Pro include local SEO and GEO setup. Pro keeps it current with monthly content and ranking checks.
